On Saturday, Eliza, Rene and me went to Yoyogi Park to the Festival Brasil 2007. At first, I wasn’t planning to go, but since I woke up extremely early (I was having very weird dreams, so I couldn’t sleep more), and my friend Eiko told me she was going as well that morning, I decided to go.
So… We could see a lot of “traditional” things from Brazil over there.
For example, in this stage, a lot of extremely unknown artists (at least for me) were performing “traditional” brazilian music (in japanese… did you know that the official language from Brazil is japanese?? yeah, me neither).
Also, on the stage was performed the “traditional” ceremony of public complaining about random insignificant ridiculous stuff.
A brazilian “traditional” car…
Brazilian “traditional” food. Brazil is all about the barbecue… or so they say. Very tasty by the way, meat (real one) is extremely scarce here in Japan, so I was really happy.
A brazilian native (Rene), doing “traditional” brazilian product advertising.
A non-brazilian (me) doing nothing brazilian related…
Or so I thought…
“Pastel de carne e Queijo”, sort of like “empanadas”. Loved the taste, reminded me of Panama. In fact, every single food I tasted reminded me of something from there, I guess Panama and Brazil are not so different after all.
Fernando (me), a “Bahiana” and Eliza.
This was a capoeira performance, or at least it was supposed to be. There’s people with sticks over there… maybe they are the ones in charge of punishing the loser.
Eiko, Yuusaku and Fernando (me).
I really had a good time over there and the food was pretty good.
Things I learned from the festival:
- Brazilian kids are the future of Japan. (said by the japanese girls with brazilian boyfriends that participated on the public complaining thing
) - Panamanian and brazilian food are quite similar.
Things I expected to see, but were nowhere to be found:

Hey hey hey hey hey: SOCCER??? it’s FOOTBALL, still, it’s weird going to a brasilian festival that doesn’t have any samba or football demonstration, angra and sepultura i could see it ’cause is rock, damn…
So, you ate an “empanada de carne y queso” there, nice, remembering the “chichero” jajajajajaja…
