On July 7th I went with Baska, Thiago, Rene and Eliza to Musashino Shimin Bunka Kaikan (武蔵野市民文化会館) in Kichijoji (吉祥寺) to watch Madama Butterfly (蝶々夫人) being performed by the University of Tokyo’s Opera Circle, since our friend Naoki was participating on it.
Here’s the pretty neat ad that was sticked in the elevator of our lodge.
Just a few minutes before the start of the opera.
Baska, Rene, Thiago and Eliza.
Fernando (me), Baska, Rene and Eliza.
I had planned to take some pictures during the play, but then I changed my mind since it was so dark and people would surely complain about the flash.
The end of the play. Naoki is there in the middle behind everyone else, dressed as a sailor.
Here’s Suzuki, Madame Butterfly’s attendant. The people loved her.
This is Pinkerton, Madame Butterfly’s husband. I wanted to kill the guy. I guess that proves the guy playing that role did it correctly. There’s Sharpless on the right, the guy did a great job fulfilling that role.
The first act’s Madame Butterfly.
Second act’s Madame Butterfly.
I really felt sorry for Madame Butterfly, too sad of a story. The girls performing as her both of them had great voices.
That’s the Pinkerton’s and Madame Butterfly’s kid in there.
The end of the credit roll.
The play was great, I couldn’t understand too much of it, but at least I could get the general idea of the story. I wonder when are they performing again.
