Last Thursday was Constitution Memorial Day here in Japan, and since we didn’t have anything better to do, we decided to go to Odaiba, an artificial island with a lot of technological stuff in there, and visit Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
We started our trip from the station, which is surprisingly called Tokyo Teleport Station, yes, the japanese have already invented teleporting technology and we arrived over there by going inside pods with all sorts of electrical phenomena inside (yeah right!!! but I still wonder why they called it like that).
Remember Pokemon? I guess you freaking obsessive Pokemon fans are gonna die when you see this.
In the island is also Fuji TV headquarters. Quite a nice building, I have to try and go inside of it one of these days.
La Flamme de la Liberte, or it’s supposed to be something like that, I couldn’t understand very well the story behind it since it was all written in japanese, but this one doesn’t look at all like the original. More than a flame it looks like some sort of giant toothpick.
We found a pretty nice park on our way to Miraikan, here on Japan there are parks everywhere, and I love that.
We can also find JASSO’s International Exchange Center on Odaiba, another dormitory for international students, and probably the best one in Tokyo, but it’s like very far from everywhere else and it probably is really expensive.
After a while, we finally managed to get to Miraikan.
You know how regular buildings have fire extinguishers and all that sort of stuff? Well, this one also has defibrillators.
When I was a kid, I sometimes used to play with microscopes and that sort of stuff, and I really thought it was cool, but damn!! it seems like kids in here find it much more interesting to play with their DNA testing kits. Times have really changed a lot.
An anti-stress robotic sea otter pet, or something like that. And here I thought they were already nuts when they invented the little AIBO dog. I wonder if it really is good for your mental health to have something like that as a pet.
Man… this thing would definitely beat Google Earth by far if it weren’t for the lack of zooming and user interface.
Superconductivity lab, levitation, that thing was just amazing.
Robots and stuff, it’s a shame, but we couldn’t see the ASIMO demonstration.
A kid riding a virtual horse, I wanna try that too sometime.
Virtual reality environments.
This is the proof that Microsoft is everywhere.
This was a device that takes pictures every given period of time and then shows it on the wall, really weird, but you can get to see some interesting images with this. (you sit down and get you picture taken)
This is supposed to be some sort of conference system, or something like that, you talk on the microphone and the dolls move their lips according to the sound. Those dolls are really creepy, you really have to see those things talking, did any of you watch Dead Silence? Man… I guess you’re gonna have nightmares tonight.
These little boxes play recordings of sounds from different parts of the world, there was no Panama box though.
Ever wanted to know how people live in the International Space Station? Well, what can I say, it’s really interesting. Did you see the toilet?
More space stuff. That last one is a propulsion system for rockets that go into outer space.
Biology section. Here are all these things about DNA, the brain, and that sort of stuff.
Ecology and environment preservation here.
Particle accelerators.
Satellites and that sort of stuff. Did I mention that I like astronomy a lot?
This one is for you Glory-chan!! remember?
This one is a demonstration of how strong is water pressure at around 2000 meters underwater. We were hanging around because we thought they were gonna start giving free cup noodles or something like that.
Here are the guys after we finished our tour through the museum.
From left to right: Felipe, Lukas, Luke and Naoki. Afterwards, we just continued looking around Odaiba.
There’s a replica of the Statue of Liberty here.
The Rainbow Bridge, the one that connects Odaiba with the main island.
We went inside Aqua City, a shopping mall, and we found these guys promoting a rugby game or something. Look at the way the guy with the microphone is dressed, I wonder if they really consider that “cool”.
The beach!!!
This is another artificial island, I really don’t remember it’s name right now, but all of these used to be for defensive purposes against the americans.
Naoki trying to pass for some kind of monument.
We ended our journey by going back to Tokyo Teleport Station through the… yeah you guessed it! the Teleport Bridge! Geez those names are weird!
